E-mail Subject line tips
- NEVER USE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
- Steer clear of excess exclamation points, smiley faces or other symbols.
- Don't be deceptive (i.e., don't use "Re: The Information You Requested" if your recipient didn't really request any information).
- Focus on benefits to be found by reading, avoid words like "free"
(see: Wilson Web Words that trigger spam filters - including "Weekend Getaway"). - Use customer focused keywords.
- Create a sense of urgency with a time sensitive offer.
In general, choose subject lines that capture immediate interest and make people want to read more. Vague subject lines like "Our November Newsletter" are less than inspiring Instead, say something that engages your readers' attention with an interesting topic or headline from the newsletter, such as "Early booking rates for birders visiting this spring". A good subject line is like an instant endorsement from a friend: credible, concise, and compelling.
